How We Help

Conditions Treated

Here at The Ashby Clinic we can assess and treat a wide range of conditions. Whether you have an acute (recent) or chronic (longer standing) problem we can help!

Acute injuries need to be managed carefully to prevent further damage and allow a safe return to activity, minimising the risk of reinjury.

Chronic problems require a different approach. Don't be put off seeking help, even if you've had treatment, injections or even operations before. With the right approach, even problems that have been there for many years can be successfully managed.

There are so many conditions and situations where physiotherapy can help, from your head, right down to your toes – far too many to list! However, most conditions will fall under one of the following:

  • Acute back pain (and sciatica)
  • Chronic back pain
  • Sports injuries
  • Running injuries
  • Muscle, ligament and tendon strains, sprains and tears
  • Fractures (broken bones)
  • Dislocations
  • Neck pain
  • Trapped nerves
  • Joint pain and injury
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rehab following orthopaedic surgery

Our job is to work out what the problem is, why it is there and choose an effective way to deal with it!

Common Questions

Conditions & Treatments FAQ

We treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions including acute and chronic back pain, sciatica, sports injuries, running injuries, muscle/ligament/tendon strains and tears, fractures, dislocations, neck pain, trapped nerves, joint pain, osteoarthritis, and rehabilitation following orthopaedic surgery. Whether your problem is acute (recent) or chronic (long-standing), we can help.
Yes, physiotherapy is one of the most effective treatments for back pain. Most back pain is 'mechanical' or 'non-specific' and responds well to physiotherapy. We will identify the underlying causes of your pain, provide hands-on treatment to relieve symptoms, and give you tailored exercises. Even long-standing back pain can be significantly improved with the right approach.
Absolutely. Dan Barrett has specialised in musculoskeletal physiotherapy since 2003 and has extensive experience treating sports injuries across all levels, from weekend warriors to elite and competitive athletes. We treat everything from muscle strains and ligament injuries to more complex conditions requiring post-surgical rehabilitation.
Yes, knee pain is one of the most common running injuries we see. It's often caused by doing too much too soon, lack of strength, or biomechanical issues with how the foot and hip move. We will identify the underlying cause of your knee pain and provide targeted exercises and treatment to address it. We also offer advice on training progression to prevent recurrence.
Yes, we offer shockwave therapy (extra-corporeal shockwave therapy) at The Ashby Clinic. It sends soundwaves through injured tissue to stimulate healing. It is particularly effective for stubborn tendon problems that have been present for over 12 weeks, including plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, tennis elbow, and rotator cuff tendinopathy. Most people require 3-6 sessions.
Yes, post-surgical rehabilitation is a key part of what we do. Dan Barrett has extensive experience working with patients after orthopaedic surgery, including hip and knee replacements. Modern rehabilitation goes beyond just getting back to walking — we help you return to the activities and exercise you love.
We offer a range of treatments including hands-on manual therapy, tailored exercise programmes (which can be printed or emailed to you), shockwave therapy, ultrasound, acupuncture, and electrical muscle stimulation. The right combination of treatments will be discussed with you as part of your assessment.
