Appointments & Practicalities
No, you do not need a GP referral to book an appointment at The Ashby Clinic. You can simply book yourself in directly online, by phone on 07702 081636, or by email at info@ashbyclinic.co.uk. However, if you wish to use private medical insurance, your provider may require a referral.
You can book an appointment in three ways: online through our booking portal, by phone on 07702 081636, or by email at info@ashbyclinic.co.uk. For BUPA bookings, please contact us by phone or email as online booking is not available for BUPA patients.
A standard consultation at The Ashby Clinic is £55 for up to 45 minutes. We also offer video consultations at £45 for up to 30 minutes. Our generous consultation time includes writing notes, any letters required, booking follow-ups and taking payments.
We need to be able to see and assess the problem areas, so please dress with this in mind. For leg problems, you will need shorts or sensible underwear. For shoulder or neck problems, you will need to remove your top, so ladies may wish to wear a strappy vest.
At your first appointment, we will talk through the problems you have been experiencing and ask about your medical history, work, sports and hobbies. We will then carry out a thorough examination of the problem area and surrounding areas. This allows us to work out what the problem is and create a tailored treatment plan. Treatment often involves a combination of hands-on manual therapy and carefully selected exercises.
This varies depending on your condition. At The Ashby Clinic, we don't try to sign you up to lots of regular appointments. Sometimes one session is all that's needed, while other problems may take longer. This will be discussed with you as part of your assessment. Our goal is to use our expertise to support you on your way to a lasting recovery.
We require 24 hours' notice for cancellations, otherwise a 50% cancellation fee will apply. We understand that things come up unexpectedly, so please do let us know as soon as possible if you need to change your appointment.
Many private medical insurers will cover physiotherapy at The Ashby Clinic. Please check with your provider. Note that your insurer may require a GP or consultant referral before your appointment. For BUPA patients specifically, please contact us by phone or email to book as online booking is not available.
What We Treat
Conditions & Treatments
We treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions including acute and chronic back pain, sciatica, sports injuries, running injuries, muscle/ligament/tendon strains and tears, fractures, dislocations, neck pain, trapped nerves, joint pain, osteoarthritis, and rehabilitation following orthopaedic surgery. Whether your problem is acute (recent) or chronic (long-standing), we can help.
Yes, physiotherapy is one of the most effective treatments for back pain. Most back pain is 'mechanical' or 'non-specific' and responds well to physiotherapy. We will identify the underlying causes of your pain, provide hands-on treatment to relieve symptoms, and give you tailored exercises. Even long-standing back pain can be significantly improved with the right approach.
Absolutely. Dan Barrett has specialised in musculoskeletal physiotherapy since 2003 and has extensive experience treating sports injuries across all levels, from weekend warriors to elite and competitive athletes. We treat everything from muscle strains and ligament injuries to more complex conditions requiring post-surgical rehabilitation.
Yes, knee pain is one of the most common running injuries we see. It's often caused by doing too much too soon, lack of strength, or biomechanical issues with how the foot and hip move. We will identify the underlying cause of your knee pain and provide targeted exercises and treatment to address it. We also offer advice on training progression to prevent recurrence.
Yes, we offer shockwave therapy (extra-corporeal shockwave therapy) at The Ashby Clinic. It sends soundwaves through injured tissue to stimulate healing. It is particularly effective for stubborn tendon problems that have been present for over 12 weeks, including plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, tennis elbow, and rotator cuff tendinopathy. Most people require 3-6 sessions.
Yes, post-surgical rehabilitation is a key part of what we do. Dan Barrett has extensive experience working with patients after orthopaedic surgery, including hip and knee replacements. Modern rehabilitation goes beyond just getting back to walking — we help you return to the activities and exercise you love.
We offer a range of treatments including hands-on manual therapy, tailored exercise programmes (which can be printed or emailed to you), shockwave therapy, ultrasound, acupuncture, and electrical muscle stimulation. The right combination of treatments will be discussed with you as part of your assessment.
